Techie Talk by Judy @ 5:54 PM

In the wee hours of the morning, an underground fire in downtown Baltimore knocked out my site host. Their NOC was OK. Power was lost, and the UPSs would only take the servers so far before everything needed to be shut down. More seriously, their connections to the backbone were interrupted when all of the phone companies also lost power. We’re finally back up about an hour ago. What a mess! I’ve seen a bunch of boards where customers are ready to jump because of this. I’m staying where I am. My host has been great and I have no complaints. This was something totally out of their hands that could not be planned for. I’m glad it came back as soon as it did. My last host had their backbone running under the World Trade Center. They never came back, as far as I know.

    • As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. In both instances there is a twilight when everything remains seemingly unchanged. And it is in such twilight that we all must be most aware of change in the air - however slight - lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness.
