OK. So can you tell that I’m happy that the clown barf stripy socks are finished? Oh, I cannot begin to express my joy at this event!
I don’t hate them. Really. But I want you to follow this link and then scroll down until you find High Desert. Then pop the bigger picture up.
That’s the yarn that I saw in the skein. Glorious, isn’t it? Whodda thunk it that it would knit up like this? The colors in the sock picture are brighter than they actually appear in real life. It’s early in the morning and raining again so the light was a little weird.
These socks had it in for me right up until the last. I finished up the ribbing, and leaned forward in my chair to fetch my needles from my knitting bag. As I sat back I heard crrruunnnchhh. Yep. Broke two harmony needles. One from each circular. Aaaaaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhh I’m not safe around wooden things, apparently. I’d best stick to metal.
The Particulars:
- Yarn: Great Adirondack Yarn Co. Soxie, 100% wool, 360 yds/skein, in color High Desert
- Needles: US#1, Knit Picks Harmony circulars
- Pattern: my own – toe-up, short-row heel, plain stockinette. Started with Judy’s Magic Cast-on, of course
In completely non-knitting, techie news, I’ve been fighting with the new WP 2.5 admin panels. All I can say is ICK. The write panels were especially horrible, as all of the little check boxes and drop-down lists were moved under the post write area, making it necessary to scroll for a bazillion miles every time I posted. Which I realize has not been often lately, but let’s not digress.
A long, long, long thread started over in the WordPress.org support forum amongst those of us not happy with the new arrangement. The end result was that this intrepid reporter, along with a few others, made changes to the panels to make them more usable. You can see a picture of the new panel here
If you are a self-hosted WP 2.5 user and would like to incorporate these changes, you can download them here, although I think this is the version that has an extraneous comma in the draft list. Or, to get the very latest version, download directly from the WordPress bug report. The files all go in wp-admin/, except for global.css, which goes in wp-admin/css/. Sorry, I can’t help you if you are on WordPress.com.
Didn’t know I had such mad codr skilz, didja? 😆
I am loving those clown barf socks, girlfriend! The heels rock! Hmmm, I maybe need to rethink short row heels – I don’t have the best of luck with them….
Divine. Just wear those puppies when you are needing a wee bit of comic relief in your mad codr skilz days!

wow – I would be disappointed – the yarn pic has a lot of green in it that I don’t see at all in the socks.
Also they start out the description of the color as “Do you love Koigu” I do love Koigu and one of the reasons is that so far it has not striped or pooled for me in socks.
I’m hoping that at least the base sock yarn compares.
All that being said – these socks are very cool – I’d wear them.

congratulations on finishing the clown barf sox – they look great – altho I agree – no apparent connection to the photo of the skeing! I also thought the name clown barf was good – pretty clever in my estimation. I always dream that some day I will write children’s books and wouldn’t kids love the name “clown barf socks”? (not their mothers, but the kids!)
Once again I admire the way you just jump in there and “do it yourself” – first the ipod in your glove box and now taking on wordpress and making them better, too.
You rock, Judy.

I love those socks! But I too would have expected something quite different by the look of the skein.
Two snaps up for hanging in there and finishing your socks! 😎

Hi, just wanted to say thank you, SO MUCH, for your hard work in hacking the new 2.5 files! Really, it’s awesome. I almost went in to do it myself today and you’ve saved me a day’s work! God bless you.

Why does the description of that yarn mention “do you love Koigu”? I’ve never seen Koigu stripe like this or have one color predominant over the others. I can understand why you purchased the yarn, but I personally won’t buy any for myself after seeing how it knits us.
At least you got a choice to switch to WordPress 2.5 Since WordPress is my host, they just switched me and messed me all up. I’d only been using them for about a month, so I was trying to figure out where they moved everything to. I’m sure glad I didn’t have to deal with what you did. Ick.

Oh, NO. You have no idea how unhappy I am now. I have TWO skeins of Great Adirondack in my basket now, purchased in November when Cat was teaching up in her own neck of the woods… and I purchased some extra sock yarn (okay, like nobody else does this?). I intended on using the GA yarn for the class, but Cat thought it seemed a little “thin” for the class, and wanted me to use a heavier yarn, so I used Smooshy. But I have 2 skeins of GA “Silkie Sock”, yep, they make it with silk, and like you, I was enthralled with the strong colorways. I just checked, your source (which I have purchased from before) doesn’t have my colorways, but they are “Foliage” and “Serengeti II”, and I am uncomfortably afraid that those two expensive skeins are going to turn out with stripes…like yours did. NOT what I want at all. I think I’d better switch to a pattern that will break that stuff up.
Looking at this, I am guessing I’ll have to use size 0 needles, but I still only have 360 yards to do the socks… that may be a hat trick, considering my shoe size of 9.5… and I’d like to have some leg…. good thing I’ll be doing them toe up!
And the Smooshy? Beautiful, but turned into a pair of socks for the hubby, who bogarted them right away from me on the first sock… they were too big in the circumference for my liking, and his foot is narrow, so he got them. I love your cast on!
