Christmas snow!
The pudding is steaming in the oven. The stew is simmering on the stove. #1 Son will be here soon. And it is snowing.
Snowing! On Christmas! Look! There’s proof!
Where I grew up, it was a strange Christmas that didn’t have snow falling — on the actual day, you know. There was usually already a fair bit on the ground.
Here in Portland… not so much. It’s pretty much the opposite. If we’re lucky the sun shines. If not, it rains. But snow? This is a new and wondrous thing!

It was sooo sooo neat to see the snow! We live in the valley at 1000 feet and ended up with 4-5 inches. It’s melting now, but what a nice present

Since finding your site, your thoughts cheer me! You have a beautiful enclosed, private area (you’ve obviously worked hard to make it as lovely as it is, it stirs a sense of serenity, security, and of a personal retreat, it’s very beautiful).
Today, Christmas, I was with my #1 Oldest Daughter and #1 Youngest Daughter, with my #1 Middle Daughter on the East Coast, far, far away…
But, I brought w/me my 30th attempt at my very first sock—successfully completed. It turned out to be rather a Cinderella moment as I asked both my daughters to try it on (for measurement purposes for future attempts)…
And, it fit my #1 Oldest absolutely perfectly and my #1 Youngest, just a tad shy in length…
–and, they were both impressed beyond means/words that mom had actually accomplished the curvature (angle) presented by a “heel” in the sock.
They’re beginning to think mom is doing a little more than knitting baby blankets and scarves…
It’s nice to have my kids have that “mom made, mom did, wow!” sensibility they leave behind as they individuate… into “adulthood.”
Although it snowed a little here where we are–a little south of you today, that my girls thought my 30th 1st was pretty marvelous, was a pretty special moment for me… today.

I too always enjoy your postings. In addition, I am also spending the holidays with #1 son. He is vegan. Fortunately for me, he does the cooking. Vegan entrees would not have been my first choice but I’m always pleasantly surprised at how good they taste.
My 2nd son and my daughter live in British Columbia so it doesn’t look like we will all be together for Christmas in the foreseeable future.

Wasn’t the snow wonderful? It came down long enough and hard enough to really be a blanket, with big puffy flakes to watch fall to the ground. Just enough to be interesting, but not around long enough to have to live with. Perfect!
